Provenance: This group of photographs is from the Cortlandt and Nancy Knowles Parker collection from Greenvale Farm Estate and Vineyard in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Major General Cortlandt Parker (1884-1960) was the son of Major General James Parker (1854-1934). Cortlandt served in France during World War I. As a Major General in the United States Army during World War II, he commanded the 5th Infantry Division (“Red Diamond” Division) from August 1941 to June 1943, and from 1943 to 1946 he served as Commanding General of the Southern California Sector in the Western Defense Command.
