Provenance: Affixed with a typed paper label inscribed "This is an excellent rendition of St. Nicholas and was acquired from a farm near Polock, Russia from a Mr. Emillja Denisova, who, with his wife, has lived on this farm for all of his 77 years. He says it was at the family altar when he was a small boy and he figured his father or grandfather acquired it in Vitebsk, Russia, where they have relatives. While it is in mint condition, it is dated in the 1840's."
