Two Leather Hat Trunks/ Boxes and Four Hats, 1930s-1940s. The largest box embossed with the initials "CP" on the front, fitted with two beaver top or riding hats (one with a ring in to hold on), a derby and a hat.

Provenance: These two trunks and the hats are from the Cortlandt and Nancy Knowles Parker collection from Greenvale Farm Estate and Vineyard in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Major General Cortlandt Parker (1884-1960), whose initials are embossed on the first trunk, was the son of Major General James Parker (1854-1934). Cortlandt served in France during World War I. As a Major General in the United States Army during World War II, he commanded the 5th Infantry Division (“Red Diamond” Division) from August 1941 to June 1943, and from 1943 to 1946 he served as Commanding General of the Southern California Sector in the Western Defense Command.
