The blades variously engraved with flowers, scrolls, military trophies and an American eagle, the first engraved on the blade "CAPT. W.F. MENGERT. CO. G.," and signed "ARMY & NAVY CO-OPERATIVE Co. WASHINGTON D.C." (blade length 31.625 );" the second engraved on the blade "Wm. H. Johnson, ASST. ENG./ U.S.N.;" the blade signed "BERNSTEIN BROOKLYN N.Y.," (blade length 27.75 in.).
